The Trail of the Painted Ponies took off in the early 2000's and the figurines are popular collector's items today. But these tiny scuptures were based off of real art, painstakingly painted on lifesized fiberglass models. Penny painted "Apple-Oosa", a natural extension of her still life talent. "Apple-Oosa" was sponsored by Heart of the Desert, Eagle Ranch Pistachios and can be seen at their Alamogordo Gift Shop and Gallery even today.

Penny's reference material of an Appaloosa horse and her original concept sketch.
Penny painted the Apple-Oosa in her garage in Alamogordo, New Mexico, attached to her studio.
The base of Apple-Oosa is a collection of common apple sayings. Penny loves her puns and cliches!
Apple-Oosa has her own custom horse blanket to protect her while she travels to her soon-to-be permanent home at Eagle Ranch.
Penny loves fun details. She would often ask children looking at her pony to try to find the bee and ladybug hidden. There's even a pineapple painted on Apple-Oosa's belly where only the kids can see it!
Penny used the big canvas of her horse to include as many apple's as she could! Can you find the ladybug?
Penny looking good as she show's off her creation at a gala dedicated to the ponies.
